Brighton shortlist ex-Liverpool star as target in a saga which Man Utd will watch closely

Brighton are reportedly keeping close tabs on Lyon midfielder Tyler Morton.

The 23-year-old has hit the ground running in the Ligue 1 following his £15million move from Liverpool over the summer, making 17 appearances for the club in all competitions and scoring once.

Morton’s influence at both ends of the pitch has already made him a standout star at the Groupama Stadium, and his displays have put him in the frame for a quickfire return to England.

Although Liverpool did not insert a buyback clause into their academy graduate’s deal, a host of other Premier League sides are interested in acquiring the services of the playmaker.

According to TEAMtalk, Brighton are among those clubs who are ‘following Morton closely’.

Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace are also said to be keen on Morton, in a saga which will pique the interest of Manchester United heading into the January transfer window and beyond.

All three of the aforementioned outfits have midfielders on their books who are of interest to the Red Devils – Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton – and thus if Morton were to head to any of those clubs then it would only improve their chances of bringing in a marquee signing.

Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle are in the race to sign the Lyon star as well though, and if any of the trio make a concrete move next month, then it could scupper United’s short-term plans.

Morton is said to be pleased with how his move to the Ligue 1 is panning out so far, and Lyon are in no rush to facilitate his sale so soon after striking a deal with Liverpool.

However, the French outfit have struggled financially recently, and an offer in the region of £30m would test their resolve.
