Nottingham Forest are hopeful centre-back Murillo will be available for their big Premier League clash with Everton at the weekend.

The Brazilian has missed the Reds’ last couple of games through a combination of a hamstring problem and then illness. He was not involved in training today (Thursday) but head coach Sean Dyche hopes he will have recovered from his virus in time for Saturday’s trip to Merseyside (3pm kick-off).

Forest are likely to still be without the rest of their walking wounded against the Toffees, although those sidelined are making progress in their recoveries. Chris Wood (knee), Douglas Luiz (hamstring), Angus Gunn (knee), Oleksandr Zinchenko (groin), Taiwo Awoniyi (unknown), Ola Aina (hamstring) and young goalkeeper Aaron Bott (unknown) remain out of action.

Winger Dilane Bakwa took a big step in his comeback from a hamstring issue on Wednesday night when he started for the B Team. The winger has been sidelined since October and Dyche is keen to ease him back gradually.

"I've got a list here,” the Reds boss said as he provided an injury update ahead of the weekend. “Woody is making a bit of progress but it is still early days yet.

"Taiwo is on the grass and doing well. Douglas Luiz is close to getting back to training with us. Angus Gunn is a bit delayed with his but is getting better.

"Dilane Bakwa had 60 minutes with the B Team, which is good. He came through unscathed but it is a case of gently, gently as he gets match fit.

“Zinchenko is on the grass and is doing fine. He is on his way back.

“Ola is still a bit of time yet. Aaron Bott, the young goalkeeper, is recovering.

“Murillo was touch and go with his hamstring, then he has been ill since. We are just monitoring him daily and are hoping he recovers quickly.”

Wood has not featured in the Garibaldi since mid-October. Dyche is reluctant to suggest when the front man might make his return.

“We are not putting any timescale on it,” he said. “It is slowly, slowly and carefully, carefully.

“But he is making some progress. We are just starting him back on the real pathway after a rest period of settling things down. We are hopeful it is going in the right direction, but it is very early yet.”

After last weekend’s defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, the Reds returned to winning ways on Wednesday night. Igor Jesus bagged the only goal of the game at Molineux to see off Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Morgan Gibbs-White was substituted late on against his former club, having also been replaced in the final minutes against the Seagulls. The playmaker has been struggling with a stiff back of late.

“I think he’s alright,” Dyche said. “We’ve got a few knocks at the minute; we are playing a lot of games and a few of the guys have been playing a lot of football.

“Morgan is one of them. We have got a few knocks, more than anything. I don’t think it’s anything serious.”
