Wes Brown says not even Matheus Cunha can help Man Utd escape glaring issue under Ruben Amorim right now

Wes Brown used Matheus Cunha as the perfect example to show one growing concern that he has for Manchester United under Ruben Amorim this season.

Manchester United signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves back in June and the 26-year-old Brazilian forward has been a key part of Ruben Amorim’s plans.

The former Wolves ace has scored only once in 11 fixtures across all competitions for United, but Cunha’s influence in matches has been clear for the Red Devils.

United have struggled in their last two Premier League matches against Everton and Crystal Palace after Cunha has been out of action due to an injury setback.

However, Cunha has recovered from his injury and the Brazil international could make his return for the Red Devils in Thursday evening’s clash against West Ham.

Wes Brown makes a powerful Man Utd assessment after he singles out Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has relied on Matheus Cunha’s impact for the left-sided No 10 role in his tactical system in the 2025-26 campaign.

Cunha has been able to cut in from the left and add a whole new attacking dynamic to the front three alongside summer signings Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

Speaking on No Tippy Tappy Football, Wes Brown has said that not even Cunha’s role in Amorim’s system can escape the fact that United are lacking strikers.

“Cunha is probably a little bit different to a main striker,” he said.

“Sesko is still young and he’s still learning his way, finding his feet.”

“When Cunha hasn’t played, we’ve struggled a little bit to keep the ball, hold it.

Benjamin Sesko’s absence has only shown how vulnerable Man Utd look with attacking options this season

Benjamin Sesko is out of action for United for at least a month after the 22-year-old Slovenian striker picked up a knee injury ahead of the November international break.

The Slovenia international has been Amorim’s leading choice for a striker after United signed Sesko from RB Leipzig in August in a deal worth £73.7m.

Amorim has been forced to turn to out-of-favour striker Joshua Zirkzee, who made an impact in United’s 2-1 comeback win over Crystal Palace last weekend.

But the injury blow to Sesko and Cunha’s recent absence from the United first team has amplified the lack of attacking depth that the Red Devils have at their disposal.
