Amass and Man Utd news revealed - and how it impacts Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday: Sale updates and next steps

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen revealed the reason behind a hold-up on an agreement that would see Harry Amass see out the season on loan from Manchester United.

The England youth international has starred down the Owls’ left side since arriving to the club on deadline day of the summer window, playing every minute of their Championship campaign since his debut in August. Pedersen has spoken in glowing terms about the development of the youngster, with The Star having reported an understanding that both clubs are pleased with his progress ahead of a decision whether or not to renew his loan deal in January.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Blackburn Rovers the Danish coach reiterated his desire for a deal to be made for Amass to complete the campaign at S6 - and suggested to The Star that contract discussions at Old Trafford had to be ironed out before those talks can be completed. His current deal with the Premier League giants is set to expire in 2027.

“There is contact between Sheffield Wednesday and Man United and I hope in the next one or two weeks we can come closer to something here,” Pedersen said, before being pressed on the reasons for the hold-up.

“I think there is something between Manchester United and Harry that they have to find out before we can make the next step,” he continued. “I hope it will be found out in the short term. There could be something with the contract between Harry and Manchester United, but let’s see what happens. I think we will find a solution - I really hope.”

Amass was sent to Hillsborough with a range of mission statements in mind, centrally a progression in his ability to play a string of matches to a consistent level and an improvement in his defensive output. In a recent interview with The Star, the youngster signalled his satisfaction with how those attributes were progressing and looked ahead to where his future lay. He registered his first assist in senior football in Saturday’s defeat to Preston North End and grabbed his first senior goal at Southampton last month.

“At the moment I haven't really thought to much about it even though it is coming,” Amass said on the prospect of United’s January decision. “I just want to play in the games and a lot of stuff has happened higher. We're waiting for things to get straightened out and we'll sort it out closer to the time. But at the moment I'm just enjoying playing here.

“I'm obviously playing a lot of minutes, which is the main thing. We haven't had the results that we've wanted, but on a personal point of view I'm enjoying it. I think we can do more and I feel like there are more levels within me that I can try to produce. That will come with more games, getting used to it more and making sure I keep enjoying it.”
