Douglas Luiz signed for Nottingham Forest from Juventus in the summer of 2025, but the move has turned a little sour.
Luiz couldn’t convince Nuno Espirito Santo before he left before Ange Postecoglou gave him a chance to shine from the start of games.
However, injuries have blighted his time at Forest so far, with Luiz managing to play just six games so far during his time at the City Ground.
A hamstring injury flared up against Manchester United in November, and since then, he’s not been seen in first-team action on Trentside.

Douglas Luiz delivers verdict on Forest win over Wolves
The Brazilian player was a keen spectator last night as the Reds won at Molineux, with Igor Jesus finally getting off the mark in the Premier League this season.
Luiz must be itching to get back on the pitch and start making an impact on Sean Dyche’s team, but for now, he’s got to settle for a watching brief.
After last night’s win, he posted on Instagram: “+3 is so important for us, let’s gooooooooo.”
Forest facing a big decision over Luiz
If Luiz is going to sign permanently for Forest, he will have to play in 20 matches in all competitions and given that he’s not been able to stay fit, those chances look bleak.

However, all is not lost yet. Dyche has suggested that Luiz is on the right track, and perhaps with the games coming thick and fast, he can get back on the pitch at some point.

It feels unlikely that Forest would send a player like Luiz back to Juventus, but perhaps the January transfer window will give a better indication of just how bad his injury is.
Luiz feels like a character in the dressing room and given what he’s achieved in the Premier League before coming to Forest, the hope will be that he can get fit around the time that Ibrahim Sangare heads off to the African Cup of Nations.
