Marcelo has talked up the major impact that Manchester United and Brazil midfielder Casemiro had on him during their time together at Real Madrid.

Casemiro was arguably one of the best midfielders in the world when he was at Real Madrid and enjoyed incredible success in the Spanish capital with Los Blancos.

The 33-year-old Manchester United midfielder struck up a remarkable midfield partnership with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric when the trio were together at Madrid.

Casemiro lifted three La Liga titles, five Champions League trophies and a Copa del Rey during his prolific playing spell in the heart of the Madrid midfield.

The Brazil international’s time at Los Blancos came to an end in 2022 and Casemiro completed a blockbuster transfer to Old Trafford in a deal worth up to £70m.

Marcelo was reunited with former Real Madrid teammate Iker Casillas on the Spain legend’s YouTube channel and opened up about his career at Los Blancos.

Marcelo arrived at Los Blancos in 2007 from Brazilian outfit Fluminense and lifted six La Liga titles, five Champions League trophies and two Copa del Reys with Madrid.

The ex-Olympiacos defender told Iker Casillas that he felt that former Madrid and Brazil teammate Casemiro was his best teammate ahead of Roberto Carlos.

“Roberto at the time, we were together for a short period, but he helped me a lot, so he knew me quite well,” he said.

“But I think Casemiro. Casemiro understood me off the pitch and on it.”

Marcelo, who left Madrid in 2022, shared the pitch with both Madrid legend Sergio Ramos and former Los Blancos midfielder Casemiro during his time at the club.

Sergio Ramos is regarded as one of the best defenders of all time and the 39-year-old had a sensational impact with both Spain and Madrid in his prolific career.

Marcelo admitted that the former Spain and Madrid captain was comparable with Manchester United star Casemiro for how much he connected with him on the pitch.

“On the pitch, he [Casemiro] understood me even more, along with Sergio, he helped me a lot,” he told Iker Casillas.

“So yes, Casemiro [is my favourite teammate].”

Casemiro is under contract with United until 2026 and the five-time Champions League winner is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the current season.
