Man United step up interest in Greek midfielder

Manchester United welcome struggling West Ham United to Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

The Red Devils currently sit ninth in the Premier League table, but victory against the Hammers would move Ruben Amorim’s side as high as fifth, as their goal difference is far worse than fourth-placed Chelsea’s.

United then face Wolves on Monday night, before a busy festive period starts when they host Bournemouth.

Ahead of Thursday night’s game, it has emerged that United are stepping up their pursuit of a highly-rated midfielder.

As per TEAMtalk, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Olympiakos midfielder Christos Mouzakitis.

The report claims that the Manchester outfit have been scouting the 18-year-old regularly this season and are now preparing to step up their interest in the player.

Mouzakitis is a product of Olympiakos’ youth academy and has now played more than 50 times for the Greek Super League side club across all competitions.

So far this term he has made 16 appearances, including five in the Champions League.

The midfielder was handed his senior international debut for Greece last year, and has now been capped seven times by his country.

The report suggests that Olympiakos are keen to keep hold of the player and believe that he may be worth a fee in the region of £25-25 million in the near future.

A move away from his boyhood club is said to be most likely next summer, with United just the latest in a long list of elite European clubs to have shown interest in the player.

Mouzakitis is under contract at Olympiakos until the end of the 2028/29 season, but it appears that United may attempt to lure him away from Athens next year.
