Gary Neville spots moment Ruben Amorim was'furious'vs West Ham, Man Utd players didn't listen

Ruben Amorim watched from the sidelines as another chance slipped away for Manchester United to climb into the top five.

Manchester United drew 1-1 with West Ham at Old Trafford, throwing away a lead built by Diogo Dalot in the second half.

Ruben Amorim received a boost through Matheus Cunha’s return from injury, but he was left short of options at the back because of Matthijs de Ligt’s fresh injury concern.

It looked as though United would make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League when Dalot scored his first goal of the season, but a lapse of concentration allowed Soungoutou Magassa to score from a corner late on.

Why Ruben Amorim was ‘furious’ during West Ham draw

Before kick-off, Amorim refused to get carried away with United’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League this season. The performance that followed proved why he was right to stay grounded.

Once United had taken the lead, players seemed to take their foot off the gas, and United legend Gary Neville pointed out that Amorim was “furious” on the touchline.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: “Ruben Amorim will be furious. He wanted intensity and urgency.”

Before the match, Amorim spoke to Neville about wanting to see a more energetic performance from his players after a slow start against Crystal Palace and a demoralising display against Everton.

Clearly, Amorim’s demands were not executed by his players.

Man United’s complacency concern

United’s worst performances this season have arrived when facing opposition they should dominate.

The defeats to Grimsby, Brentford and Everton stand out as United’s most disappointing performances, and the draw against West Ham brought more negatives than positives.

Amorim has frequently urged his players to have more intensity and energy, especially in the late stages of a game.

United’s record in second halves is awful, and once again a late goal ended up costing priceless points.

With Wolves up next, United need to steer well clear of complacency as they head to the league strugglers.
