Manchester United played out a frustrating 1-1 draw against West Ham United in the Premier League yesterday.
The Red Devils were frontrunners to beat the Hammers at Old Trafford and took the lead through Diogo Dalot in the 58th minute.
They looked on course for a second-straight win before Soungoutou Magassa’s late 83rd-minute equaliser for the Hammers.
United paid the price for not capitalising on their chances and could have easily won the game.
Prior to the match, the Red Devils suffered a big blow with central defender Matthijs de Ligt being unavailable due to injury.
The Dutchman’s absence was felt at different stages of the game, but he is expected to return against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Manager Ruben Amorim described the injury as a ‘small thing’ and believes the £33 million-rated star will be available on Monday night.
He said: “For Matta, it is a small thing. I expect to have Matthijs next game [at Molineux].”
The Red Devils had the opportunity to go within goal difference of fourth-placed Chelsea by beating the Hammers, but were unsuccessful.
They dropped points from a winning position not for the first time this term, and must improve their defending in the final phases of games.
De Ligt’s absence was an obvious miss. He has been United’s standout centre-back this campaign and could have intercepted the cross in the lead-up to the Hammers goal.
Despite the stalemate, United are only two points behind the final Champions League spot and need to make amends with a winning streak.
They face bottom-placed Wolves, who have picked up just two points in 14 league matches. The Red Devils must beat the Midlands outfit.
