Time's up for Amorim: Man Utd seriously considering hiring 'best manager in the world' [view]

Manchester United are seriously considering hiring former Barcelona head coach Xavi to replace Ruben Amorim, Spanish outlet Fichajes has claimed.

The Old Trafford side have reportedly identified the Spanish tactician as an ‘ideal’ next manager amid their growing concerns over Amorim’s work.

The Portuguese tactician has struggled for consistency at United this season, winning just once in his last five Premier League games, including a 1-1 draw with West Ham on Thursday.

Xavi is available after leaving Barcelona at the end of last season and is believed to have turned down several offers already, including an approach from Saudi club Al-Ittihad in September.

According to Fichajes, those around him claim that Xavi is now ready to return to coaching and is believed to be seeking a stable project where he can apply his style and work in harmony with the board.

United have yet to make an approach for the Spanish tactician, but could step up their interest as soon as this month if results do not improve.

Xavi was sacked as Barcelona manager in May last year after spending three years in the Nou Camp dugout and winning both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup in 2022/23.

The 45-year-old was dismissed from his duties despite having a contract for another year and weeks after club president Joan Laporta persuaded him to stay, as Xavi initially wanted to leave at the end of the campaign.

Xavi, praised as 'the best manager in the world', spent 17 years with Barcelona as a player, winning four Champions Leagues and eight La Liga titles, while he lifted the 2010 World Cup and both Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 with Spain.

Man Utd Struggling Under Amorim

Ruben Amorim

Man United have endured a disappointing run of results under Amorim, securing just six points from their last five Premier League games.

The Red Devils were denied three points at Old Trafford on Wednesday as Soungoutou Magassa’s 83rd-minute effort cancelled out Diogo Dalot’s opener to see West Ham come away with a draw.

Set-pieces were a talking point again as United were punished from one, conceding their eighth set-piece goal of the Premier League campaign – the joint-third highest in the league.

United have struggled for consistency under Amorim this term, and a change in the dugout may be the only way to resolve their issues, given how only marginal and short-lived their improvements have been this season.
