Furious Ruben Amorim said he was “frustrated” and “angry” after Manchester United threw away a chance to move up to fifth in the Premier League table.
Diogo Dalot’s strike just before the hour mark had put United on course to go level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea but a late equaliser from Soungoutou Magassa earned West Ham a well-deserved point.
“Frustrated, angry, that’s it,” snapped Amorim when asked for his immediate reaction to the draw. “We are really inconsistent but if you look at the goal, we have a long ball (to deal with), we have everything under control and we need to do better.”
Amorim was referring to United conceding the corner that resulted in Magassa pouncing for the leveller and he was clearly annoyed.
“We are losing because of the second balls. In the final minutes we had possession, the ball was far from the opponent, we cannot let a team that is so much taller than us have a corner when the ball is with the goalkeeper.
“You always have the feeling that we need to score more goals. We suffer with that. We need to improve.
“There are second halves when we have lost control of the game. Today that wasn't the case. The game was clearly ours to win.
“We should have closed the game when we scored the first one. The game was in control. We knew it. Again, we lost two points.”
But West Ham boss Nuno Espírito Santo insisted his side deserved a share of the spoils, saying: “The reaction and character was there today. It is a bit of a small step. I think it was a good performance overall. I think it is well deserved that we got the draw.”
Former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane was far from impressed with United's display also.
"The reason you are playing for Man Utd is that you deal with these situations," he said. "You try and deal better being one up against a team in the bottom three and Everton with 10 men.
"If you can’t deal with that, how can you deal with being a team in the top of the table?"
