Jesse Lingard will leave FC Seoul after two years with his contract mutual terminated as the club claim he "conveyed his desire to move on to the next stage of his football career".

Lingard stunned many when he chose to move to South Korea as he sought a new club several years ago. He headed to the K League club on a free transfer in February 2024 and has made 66 appearances, scoring 18 goals.

His last game will be on Wednesday against Melbourne City in the AFC Champions League with the former England international finishing on a high after a difficult start, which saw him called out by his manager, before he was later made captain.

Lingard is by far the biggest name to ply his trade in the country and FC Seoul paid a glowing tribute saying he "generated an extraordinary level of public attention and emerged as a symbolic figure".

The ex-Manchester United star wrote on Instagram: "My time in South Korea has been unbelievable - the football, the atmosphere and the passion around this club have been top class. The love, support and the appreciation you have shown towards me for these last two years has been truly amazing. I'll always be grateful for the opportunity to play for such a massive club."

He is yet to confirm where he will play next after underwhelming at his last club in England, which was Nottingham Forest. He moved to the City Ground on big wages after their promotion but failed to deliver with his best stint in recent years coming on loan at West Ham.

Lingard became a peripheral figure in Manchester after returning from the Hammers, when he thought he was set for more involvement. He left Old Trafford when his contract expired and has not played for England since 2021, spending months without a club before landing in South Korea.

Lingard has interests outside of football, previously launching a clothing brand, but that has seen him criticised with the former United man enduring a drop off from the player who scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final almost a decade ago.

Roy Keane previously said: "People say you should have other stuff outside football. I don't think you should. Football should be your number one priority. Focus on the game. Don't hide behind your cars, or your tattoos, or your girlfriends or your agents. Play the game, and you can do all that stuff when you retire."
