Manchester United have officially completed the signing of young goalkeeper Charlie Hardy. United were waiting for Premier League ratification for the move to be sealed and the transfer has now been signed off.
Hardy has signed scholarship terms at United and was pictured with Steve Higham, head of academy operations, who presented the youngster with his United club suit at Carrington.
He wrote on Instagram: "Proud to sign for Manchester United, the hard work continues."
The 16-year-old goalkeeper played for Derby's Under-18s last season and represented England's Under-16 side. In the summer, Hardy announced he was leaving Derby, writing on Instagram: "After almost a decade at Derby County, the time has now come for a new chapter.
"It’s been an incredible nine years here. I just want to thank everyone at the club who has supported me throughout my journey and helped me to become the player and person I am today. I’m grateful for all the memories I’ve made throughout my time at the club and the lads I’ve played alongside, I wish everyone at the club the best for the future."
Hardy is expected to play for United's U18s, who are coached by former midfielder Darren Fletcher. United's academy is regarded as best-in-class and the club's youth scouts are tasked with finding youngsters who have the potential to make the first team.
Scholarship deals are offered to promising young players and represent a milestone on the way to potentially being offered a professional contract, which can be signed at 17.
