Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of promising young goalkeeper Charlie Hardy from Derby County.

The move was finalised following approval from the Premier League although United will pay compensation for the teenager's services.

Hardy has agreed to scholarship terms with United having opted to leave Derby where he has represented the club at under-18s and also England under-16s.

Taking to Instagram, Hardy said: "Proud to sign for Manchester United, the hard work continues."

Earlier in the year, Hardy announced his departure from Derby on Instagram, saying: "After almost a decade at Derby County, the time has now come for a new chapter.

"It's been an incredible nine years here. I just want to thank everyone at the club who has supported me throughout my journey and helped me to become the player and person I am today. I'm grateful for all the memories I've made throughout my time at the club and the lads I've played alongside, I wish everyone at the club the best for the future."

Hardy is set to play for United's U18s under the guidance of former midfielder Darren Fletcher.

United's academy is renowned for its excellence, with youth scouts constantly on the lookout for young talents who could potentially make it to the first team.

Scholarship deals are extended to promising young players, signifying a significant step towards potentially being offered a professional contract, which can be signed at the age of 17.
