Diogo Dalot says Man Utd have a future captain in their team who Ruben Amorim is barely using

Diogo Dalot has been asked which Manchester United teammate he thinks would make a good future captain at the club.

Ruben Amorim has a squad packed with leaders this season, yet somehow, Manchester United’s performances are lacking leadership.

This defies belief as Amorim formed a leadership group at United to avoid this exact scenario, yet something hasn’t worked.

Diogo Dalot is in this leadership group, and he certainly has the personality for it, albeit his performances simply don’t match.

But the Portuguese defender has now picked out one teammate with the qualities to be a future captain at Old Trafford.

Diogo Dalot has an interesting pick for who could be a future Manchester United captain

This season has been a nightmare for Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United, with his game time being severely limited.

Most recently, Amorim left Mainoo on the bench in the draw with West Ham, instead choosing Manuel Ugarte as a second-half addition, which blew up in his face.

This once again makes it seem inevitable that Mainoo will seek an exit in January, but Dalot hasn’t given up on his teammate yet.

In an interview with Sports Direct, Dalot was asked which of his teammates he views as a future United captain, and his answer was surprising.

“Kobbie”, the number two, stated confidently, with a smile on his face while he said it.

Kobbie Mainoo can outlast Ruben Amorim

It might feel like an impossible task for Mainoo to remain at United long enough to become the captain; however, at the rate this season is going, he could soon have a new head coach.

Amorim isn’t getting anything right at Old Trafford right now, with performances, results, team selection and the disrespect to Carrington and specific players rubbing fans the wrong way.

Due to this, it would be shocking if he remained beyond this season, which means Amorim could definitely be gone by the time Mainoo returns from a hypothetical loan.

For this reason, Ineos must not sanction a permanent exit for Mainoo before the next manager to come in will probably restore him to his deserved importance.

If this happens, Mainoo won’t look back and could one day become club captain.
