MUTV pundit raves about new signing who will be a starting Man Utd player for‘years to come’

One Manchester United player is on track for a big future, without having to be spectacular.

There are always big expectations for Manchester United’s signings. But in one case, the fanbase simply wants the basics.

New goalkeeper Senne Lammens has won acclaim since he made his debut, where grateful fans compared him to club legend Peter Schmeichel.

United wanted to move on from Andre Onana, and should have done so earlier. Lammens signed so late that Ruben Amorim decided to persist with Altay Bayindir, while he got settled.

Better late than never, Lammens has been making his presence felt in the Manchester United goal.

Wes Brown backs Senne Lammens

Senne Lammens has now made eight appearances for Manchester United since signing, and looks to be at home at the club already.

The goalkeeper has given a sense of calm to the team, and the club’s current problems are all elsewhere, not between the sticks.

Speaking to MUTV, former defender Wes Brown believes that Lammens has given the team and fanbase exactly what they were looking for.

Brown said: “I think that was needed, whoever came in next, and he’s been able to do that, and he’s done it perfectly. He’s settled in straight away.

“He’s saved some good shots already, but for me, the most important thing has been he’s so calm, so calm.

“He knows when to clear it, knows when to pass it, and it’s not something we’ve been talking about after the game.”

Brown referred to the fact Lammens is often not a subject of discussion after games, to underline the quiet impact he has made.

He compared his calmness to the opposite impact Andre Onana often made, and believes that Lammens can be a long-term answer at the position.

“When you and me have not been speaking about him after the game, it’s a perfect solution for me, and that means he’s done nothing wrong. He’s just done his job and done everything right.

“Unfortunately, with Onana at times, it was ‘what he should have done, what he shouldn’t have done.’

“And that, believe me, is not what you want from a defender, first of all, and especially when you get beat as well.

“Yeah, he’s been simple. He is so simple. And that’s how people can be in that goal for many, many years to come and keep going on.”

What is your MESSAGE to Ruben Amorim after the 1-1 draw vs West Ham?

“We had good moments and we lost a little bit of control after the goal. We should have closed the game when we scored the first one.”

Just one clean sheet

Senne Lammens has one clean sheet so far for United, the one he was able to keep on his debut against Sunderland.

Quinton Fortune argued that at this stage, the low clean sheet rate is not a major issue.

“Of course, you want to keep the clean sheet for the perfect record, but it’s more about the team winning. On his part, he wants to make sure he does his best.”

United are still dropping too many points, but Lammens has not been at fault. Instead the problems lie with his head coach and his game management.
