Man United plot January move for England midfielder

Manchester United are back in Premier League action on Monday night when they visit 20th-placed Wolves.

Ruben Amorim’s side currently sit eighth in the top flight standings, but could end the weekend as high as fourth if they beat Wolves and other results go their way.

After a sluggish start to the season, the Red Devils have shown improvement in recent weeks, although they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United in their last outing on Thursday night.

Now, it appears that United are planning a move to bolster Amorim’s squad by signing a new midfielder in January.

As per CaughtOffside, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is top of Man United’s list of transfer targets as they look to sign a new midfielder.

The 21-year-old joined Palace from boyhood club Blackburn rovers at the start of last year and has since enjoyed an impressive rise.

In total he has now played 62 times for the south London club, and he has also now been capped three times by England at senior level.

The report claims that the Englishman’s impressive displays have put him firmly on Man United’s radar, although Palace will understandably be very reluctant to sell the player midway through the season.

It would therefore require a huge offer for Palace to consider a sale, the report suggests, with Wharton under contract until the end of the 2028/29 season.

As well as Wharton, United are also said to be keeping tabs on Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand, who Amorim previously worked with in the Portuguese capital.

Amorim is said to view the Dane as a player ready to fit perfectly into his squad, as he knows his system well from their time at Sporting.
