Senne Lammens shares what’s surprised him most since signing for Manchester United

Senne Lammens hasn’t looked back since taking the starting goalkeeper role from Altay Bayindir back in October.

Manchester United desperately needed an upgrade in goal after Altay Bayindir had a bit of a disaster to start this season, having been trusted by Ruben Amorim.

This saw the arrival of Belgian Senne Lammens on deadline day, but he would have to wait until the 4th of October to make his debut, keeping a clean sheet against Sunderland.

Lammens has been solid ever since, despite failing to keep another clean sheet, but examples like against West Ham saw him left no chance by his defence.

Now, Lammens has admitted one thing about his team.

Senne Lammens surprised by Manchester United’s squad

Lammens seems to be a big part of the United squad already and is undroppable, simply for doing the basics correctly, which we didn’t see with Bayindir or Andre Onana.

Lammens will only be getting better as he grows into the role, and the Belgian has been talking to Stadium Astro and admitted the one thing that has surprised him about the United squad.

“Tom Heaton, I would say maybe Tom Heaton or the fourth goalkeeper Dermot Mee or also like the Dutch guys, because it’s easier with the language as well.

“But I think just in general that’s what surprised me the most. It’s just like the togetherness of the group and of the dressing room.

“Everyone was really nice. So I don’t really want to say like one or two guys. It’s like in general with everybody, to be honest.”

Wes Brown has suggested Lammens will be United’s long-term goalkeeper, and if he is, then hopefully the current good vibes within the club are something he helps contribute to keeping.

Radek Vitek and Senne Lammens can be Manchester United’s ideal number one and two

Lammens is starting right now, with no real competitor for his place at the club, with Bayindir effectively on his way out, and Tom Heaton is arguably more backroom staff than playing staff at this point.

However, come the 2026/27 campaign, this could all be about to change with Radek Vitek impressing on loan at Bristol City, with his performances making it likely that the Czech shot stopper will be considered next season.

Vitek might come in as the new number two, but this would be a competitive duo with either capable of being number one, and by the end of their duelling, United would have a top-class number one.

Lammens has already impressed Sir Alex Ferguson this season, and we expect that to continue, with the squad atmosphere excellent news for prospective signings and also the coaching staff.
