Can Rob Edwards’ side finally turn their losing form around? We look ahead to Monday’s Premier League clash at Molineux Stadium with our Wolves vs Manchester United prediction and preview.
Wolves vs Manchester United: The Key Stats
Wolverhampton Wanderers are handed a 25.6% chance of picking up their first win of the season, while Manchester United came out on top in 51.2% of the Opta supercomputer’s pre-match simulations.
Despite losing this exact fixture last season, Man Utd have not suffered consecutive league defeats against Wolves at Molineux since August 1980.
Wolves have picked up just two points from their opening 14 fixtures, making this the joint-worst start to a Premier League season in history.
Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ start to the season has been nothing short of disastrous.
Rob Edwards’ side are still searching for their first win 14 matches into the campaign (D2 L12) and, with just two points on the board, they have equalled Sheffield United’s 2020-21 relegation campaign for the worst-ever start to a Premier League season.
A pair of narrow 1-0 defeats in their last two outings – to Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa – have further dented morale, leaving Wolves with far more than a mountain to climb.
The hosts have also lost each of their last seven Premier League matches, with this their worst run of defeats in top-flight history.
To make matters worse, the goals have dried up completely of late. Wolves have failed to score in each of their last five league games. Across their league history, they have only lost eight matches in a row on one occasion (from December 1981 to February 1982), while this is their longest losing run without a goal.
Wolves Last 5 Games - No Goals
However, if there is any optimism for Wolves, it will come from last season’s meetings with Manchester United, where they did the double over the Red Devils, winning 2-0 at Molineux and 1-0 at Old Trafford.
While last season’s United side were a picture of constant upheaval, things appear to have settled down slightly for Ruben Amorim this term.
A confidence-boosting win over Crystal Palace was followed by a frustrating 1-1 draw with West Ham on Thursday, though, as Soungoutou Magassa capitalised on a late loss of focus to steal a point.
Amorim will want a more assured showing against Wolves, with a chance to break into the top four on offer depending on other results. And his side’s recent away form offers plenty of encouragement in that regard.
United are unbeaten in their last four league matches away from home (W2 D2), having gone eight without a win on the road beforehand. Their last longer unbeaten away stretch came in the form of a seven-match run between November and February in the 2021-22 campaign.
Monday’s clash will also see Matheus Cunha return to his old stomping ground for the first since his big-money summer move to Manchester.
Indeed, thanks to his time as a Wolves player, Cunha has an excellent record at Molineux, picking up 11 goal contributions in his last 12 Premier League appearances there (six goals and five assists).
Amorim also has two other key attackers coming into the clash with some good form behind them.
Captain Bruno Fernandes has picked up an assist in each of his last four away league matches (five in total). Another against Wolves would make him just the fifth player to assist in five straight Premier League away games, after Muzzy Izzet (2003), Cesc Fabregas (2014-15), Gerard Deulofeu (2015), and Mohamed Salah (2023).

Cunha’s attacking partner Bryan Mbeumo, meanwhile, also carries an excellent record against Wolves, having either scored (three) or assisted (two) in five of his six appearances against them.
But United will still face their fair share of challenges. December has rarely been kind to them in recent seasons; they have won just one of their last seven away league matches in the final month of the year (D1 L5), that lone victory coming in last year’s 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad.
And although United have only ever lost eight Premier League matches against sides starting the matchday at the bottom of the table, two of those defeats (25%) have been away to Wolves at Molineux – 1-0 in January 2004 and 2-1 in February 2011.
*Wolves vs Manchester United* Head-to-Head
Wolves completed the league double over Manchester United last season, winning home and away, and matching the number of victories they had managed in their previous 14 meetings with the Red Devils (W2 D3 L9).
United also lost this exact fixture 2-0 last season, with current forward Cunha playing a starring role.
The Brazilian opened the scoring in sensational style directly from a corner kick before setting up Hwang Hee-chan to secure the points in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

But the Red Devils will surely take confidence from the fact that they have not been defeated by Wolves in consecutive league visits to Molineux since August 1980.
