There was a familiar name on the teamsheet for Manchester United Under-18s on Saturday as they beat Newcastle 2-0 at Carrington. Jacey Carrick, the son of former United midfielder Michael, made his debut at age-group level after coming off the bench.
A left-footed midfielder, there are high hopes for Jacey at the United academy and he has been involved in the England Under-15 set-up, but Saturday was the first time he had a place in the squad for Darren Fletcher's Under-18 set-up at United.
Jacey played with Kai Rooney for United's Under-16s in the SuperCupNI during the summer, a prestigious youth tournament in Northern Ireland, and his progress has continued this season. He has won national titles at Under-14 and Under-15 level, playing a key role in both of those triumphs.
He came on against Newcastle with 20 minutes remaining, replacing in-form 15-year-old striker JJ Gabriel, although for once it wasn't the Barcelona target who got the goals for Fletcher's team.
With the game goalless at the break, 15-year-old attacker Douka Nkoto came and produced a dazzling display, scoring twice to bag his first goal at Under-18 level.
He bagged his first from close range after Godwill Kukonki did well in the build-up. The centre-back had a role in Nkoto's second as well, with another finish from in front of goal doubling the lead.
He rounded off a superb cameo by registering a first assist for the Under-18s, squaring for 16-year-old Noah Ajayi to secure United a second successive win and move them up to fourth in the U-18 Premier League table.
