Chris Sutton has issued a mighty positive prediction for Manchester United as they line up to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening.
Manchester United travel for one of their final away fixtures of 2025 on Monday evening as Rúben Amorim prepares his side to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Rob Edwards’ men have endured a difficult campaign and currently prop up the bottom of the Premier League table, having managed just two draws while suffering ten defeats from their opening 14 matches.
Yet concerns are growing at Old Trafford as well after another uninspiring display in midweek, with United forced to settle for a 1–1 draw against 18th-placed West Ham.
With Amorim needing Champions League qualification to ease the pressure surrounding his role, the trip to Molineux has taken on must-win status, with some viewing the contest as a potential season-shaping moment.
United could achieve season-first feat vs Wolves
Ahead of the game, Chris Sutton has been speaking to BBC Sport about how he feels the weekend’s ties will pan out. Amid Wolves’ terrible form, the former Chelsea striker believes United will be able to keep their first away clean sheet of the season, with their lack of goals conceded a ‘positive’ sign.
“The Rob Edwards bounce hasn’t happened at Wolves, and it’s no surprise, either,” Sutton started, speaking about the home side. “They are still the same group of players who struggled under Vitor Pereira.
“I cannot get a Manchester United result right this season, but surely that changes this week, because they have to win this game. I thought they would have too much firepower for West Ham on Thursday, but that was not the case.
“One positive for Ruben Amorim is that I don’t ever feel like they are going to concede a load of goals, but they are still not very convincing, whoever they play against.
“This should be a different story, which is why I am backing them to win – but I wouldn’t actually be that surprised if they went to Molineux and ended up getting another 1-1 draw.
“Wolves haven’t even managed a goal, let alone a point, for five games, which probably means they are due to score, but I am going with United to keep a clean sheet too,” he concluded, handing United a 1-0 predicted victory.
United are attacking better than defending, but problems remain
It has been clear during the first four months of the season that while United’s spending of over £200 million on a new front line has secured the club a more consistent attacking threat, they still look shaky defensively.

Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw have been brilliant individually, but collectively the side still looks disjointed and unimaginative in both attack and defence at times, leaving it with gaping holes to exploit.
Senne Lammens has lost just one fixture since he made his debut at the beginning of October, but has also only kept one clear sheet, which was on his debut.
A clean sheet against Wolves, no matter how poor the opposition, would be a major boost. However, if the side conceded yet another goal against a team that’s scored just seven this season, that would be a major worry for Amorim’s men.
