Marcus Rashford left Manchester United for Barcelona in the summer

Despite any lingering friction between Manchester United and Marcus Rashford, the Premier League heavyweights clearly hold their player in high regard.

Rashford has been revitalised during his loan spell at Barcelona this season and could make the move to the Spanish giants permanent come summer. Nevertheless, United have made a bold statement by granting the player a fresh designation midway through his campaign.

It's a move that might ruffle feathers amongst certain supporters given his relationship with the club when he departed. Meanwhile, United have been dealt a crushing blow after discovering another academy graduate faces a potential stint on the treatment table following "quite a big" injury. Here's all the latest news from Old Trafford before Monday's trip to Wolves.

Rashford's United standing altered

There was once a period when Rashford appeared destined for legendary status at Old Trafford following his breakthrough as a first-team sensation in early 2016.

Much has unfolded over the last decade, and his connection seemed fractured when he initially departed on loan to Aston Villa nearly 12 months ago, reports the Mirror.

The situation became even more complex when his loan switch to Barca, including a remarkably reasonable purchase clause, was confirmed during the summer. Yet United have demonstrated their class by categorising Rashford within the 'Legends' section on their official website.

The 28-year-old now finds himself in illustrious company, alongside the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton, Roy Keane, Bryan Robson, Wayne Rooney and Denis Irwin. This decision reflects United's high regard for the player, despite recent events.

It's known that Rashford's relationship with manager Ruben Amorim hit a rough patch as his career took a downturn. However, his current form for the Red Devils doesn't overshadow his past achievements with the club.

Before his temporary departure, Rashford played a key role in securing two FA Cups, a Europa League title and two League Cups for United. So, while other legends may have thrived in more successful times, Rashford is still acknowledged for his contributions to keeping the club competitive in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

While it's no Camp Nou, United hopeful Toby Collyer was starting to make waves at the Hawthorns this season. The 21-year-old moved to West Brom over the summer, aiming to gain valuable playing time before returning to Old Trafford next year.

However, a hamstring injury described by Baggies boss Ryan Mason as "quite serious" has forced Collyer to return to Manchester earlier than planned, casting doubt on his future prospects with the Championship side.

"It's quite a big injury," Mason revealed to BBC Radio WM. "He's at United at the minute where they're assessing him and then in the coming weeks we'll decide his plan regarding his rehab.

"We've got him on loan for the season and normally any loan player that gets an injury that's a bit more than a small one, more a significant one, it's only right for the parent club to look at them, check them over, and we're in dialogue and hopefully he can do his rehab and come back better."

To date, Collyer has made 13 first-team appearances for United and was seen as a potential contender for a spot in Amorim's plans. He has clocked up 12 games for West Brom so far and had a brief stint in the starting line-up earlier this season before another setback.
