Watch this situation – Newcastle United target’s agent hypes up market-shaking transfer

Newcastle United are one of a number of clubs being linked with Alex Toth ahead of the January window. TuttoJuve this weekend reported the Magpies are competing with Juventus and others for the 20-year-old.

Born in Budapest, Toth came through the youth system at Ferencváros. He’s already a full international and has naturally been dubbed the next Dominik Szoboszlai, although that likely has more to do with nationality than anything else.

A January exit from Ferencváros has been talked up in some quarters. The defensive midfielder is widely seen as the best player in Hungarian domestic football right now and if he doesn’t go this winter than it’ll surely be the summer.

Hungary’s Mandiner have spoken to the player’s agent to get some insight. They didn’t mention Newcastle United directly, but it’s clear an exit is on the cards.

Bence Papp, the player’s representative, is quoted as saying: “Th e international press is also interested in the possible transfer of Alex. He has since been mentioned among the midfielders with the greatest potential, showing his abilities at international level both in Ferencváros and in the national team. Perhaps no young Hungarian player playing in Hungary has ever been talked about as much as he is now. This is clearly to his and Fradi’s credit. Naturally, I do not want to comment on the rumours, but I can tell you that it is worth monitoring his situation.

After that bit of transfer teasing, Papp continued: “Due to the dynamics of the market, I can’t say whether he will change clubs this winter or next summer.

“We’re not giving away anything if we say that this will happen in the summer at the latest. I can make that statement, because there is an interest in him that I don’t think has been seen in the last ten years around a young Hungarian player playing in Hungary.

“This transfer – which could take place in the summer at the latest – will fundamentally change the perception of Hungarian football on the international market.”

Big words from the agent. A player, and a situation, for Newcastle United to keep an eye on.
