Opinion: Wolves have one prime candidate to make Matheus Cunha's Molineux return uncomfortable

Matheus Cunha is back at Molineux on Monday for the first time since leaving Wolves for Manchester United – and there’s one player who could make his return an uncomfortable one.

Wolves are facing Manchester United in their latest top-flight fixture, and are again looking to get their first win.

It’s just two points taken so far from 14 games with Wolves in a world of trouble.

Rob Edwards has opened with three defeats in his first three games and while there has been a slight improvement defensively, there remains a lot of work to do to improve Wolves in the final third.

Matheus Cunha played for Wolves and Manchester United, and so has another current player at one of these clubs. Do you know who?

In total, eight players have played for Wolves and Manchester United since 1992. How many can you name? Let’s see who has the best ball knowledge. 💪

But one of the biggest narratives of this game is, of course, the return of Cunha to Molineux, which is set to be the scene of fan protests against Fosun.

Cunha left Wolves in the summer to join United in a deal worth £62.5 million, which was the value of his release clause.

As he prepares to face the Old Gold for the first time since his exit, there is one Wolves player who’ll be relishing a potential battle with the Brazilian.

Cunha is expected to start for United on Monday, and the likelihood is that he’ll be playing from an inside left position – just as he so often did for Wolves.

With Wolves likely to line up with three centre-backs again, this will potentially mean a natural meeting between Cunha and Yerson Mosquera.

And one gets the sense that Mosquera will relish the task of making life difficult for Cunha.

As Wolves fans well know, Mosquera is a very committed and enthusiastic player.

The Colombia international is known for his aggression, and he also likes to get under the skin of his opponents.

Sometimes, he can concern himself too much with this and it can detract from his performance. But it can also help him come out on top against an opponent. By and large, he never gives anyone an easy ride.

Wolves fans know that Cunha can be emotional, so Mosquera could genuinely be a prime candidate to throw him off his game on Monday.

Cunha should expect frosty reception at Molineux

There is no denying how good a player Cunha was for Wolves.

The Brazilian took a bit of time to get going for the Old Gold, but he would eventually establish himself as an extremely dangerous player, and arguably one of the most talented to play for the club in recent history.

There’s little doubt Wolves miss him in terms of his ability to provide magic and change games.

However, there’s a reasonable chance he’ll receive a frosty reception on Monday night.

What kind of reception should Matheus Cunha get on Monday night?🤔

Cunha irked Wolves fans with the interview he did about wanting to take the next step. This, while Wolves were still fighting against relegation.

Cunha also annoyed people with an Instagram post about following his dreams, and when he got a red card against Bournemouth meaning he’d miss key games. Luckily, Wolves actually ended up managing just fine without him.

It just became all about Cunha towards the end which got quite tiring.

Dave Edwards previously suggested Cunha could get booed at Molineux, and it’s difficult to imagine that not happening.
