Newcastle United 2-1 Burnley - Joe Buck match reaction
The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies are linked with a highly-rated midfielder.
Newcastle United have reportedly been handed a boost in their bid to sign one of European football’s most in-demand youngsters after his agent hinted at a possible move.
The Magpies are currently preparing for the January transfer window as they look to add to Eddie Howe’s squad in a bid to push for success across a number of competitions during the second half of the season. Several names have already been linked with a move to St James Park in the first month of the new year and United are believed to be considering moves for a full-back, midfielder and a forward.
The likes of Italy international Davide Frattesi, Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande and AZ Alkmaar’s highly-rated midfielder Kees Smit have all been suggested as possible Magpies targets across the media at home and abroad. However, it is the future of another young midfielder that has made headlines after the agent of Hungary midfielder Alex Toth opened up on the Ferencvaros youngster’s future.
At the age of just 20, Toth has already made over a half century of appearances for Newcastle’s former UEFA Cup opponents and has established himself in the senior Hungary squad alongside the likes of RB Leipzig defender Willi Orban and Liverpool duo Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez. Toth has been linked with moves to Newcastle and Serie A giants Juventus in recent days and his agent has now confirmed a move during the summer transfer window is a possibility.

Toth’s agent, Bence Papp, said: “The international press is also interested in the possible transfer of Alex. He has since been mentioned among the midfielders with the greatest potential, showing his abilities at international level both in Ferencváros and in the national team. Perhaps no young Hungarian player playing in Hungary has ever been talked about as much as he is now. This is clearly to his and Fradi’s credit. Naturally, I do not want to comment on the rumours, but I can tell you that it is worth monitoring his situation.
“Due to the dynamics of the market, I can’t say whether he will change clubs this winter or next summer. We’re not giving away anything if we say that this will happen in the summer at the latest. I can make that statement, because there is an interest in him that I don’t think has been seen in the last ten years around a young Hungarian player playing in Hungary. This transfer – which could take place in the summer at the latest – will fundamentally change the perception of Hungarian football on the international market.”
