Ruben Amorim made identical Man Utd complaint after both losses to Wolves, it must change

Ruben Amorim will face Wolves for the third time as Manchester United head coach on Monday evening.

Both of Ruben Amorim’s previous meetings against Wolves ended in defeat, and he will hope to avoid extending that record at Molineux.

United suffered a 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day and were unable to avenge the result at Old Trafford, where a Pablo Sarabia free-kick meant Wolves beat United 1-0.

Amorim trusted in United’s youth in the last meeting with Wolves. This time around, the line-up is expected to look very different.

With different players on the pitch, Amorim will hope that United can finally fix the problem he complained about in both previous matches against Wolves.

Ruben Amorim’s complaint after Wolves defeats

United have only won one of their past five matches in the Premier League and a major problem has been the ability to break down opposition defences.

In both matches last season, Amorim pointed out that United controlled the match but were unable to make their dominance count.

In the December clash at Molineux, Amorim said: “Sometimes we lose the ball, Wolves make some transitions, but we are in control of the game. We had a little bit of a lack of aggression in the last third but we were in control in the game.”

Five months later in the return fixture, Amorim added: “It’s easy to review this game. They scored in the only opportunity they had, we had many chances and we didn’t score.

“If you don’t score goals, you are not going to win games. It’s really frustrating to be better than the opponent, create chances but then lose the game.”

“We have to score goals. We need to improve in that area of the game clearly. If you don’t score goals, you don’t win games. I think the biggest problem is the lack of goals. We are not scoring.”

Wolves could plunge Man Utd into crisis

The worst results this season have come in games where United have gone in as heavy favourites. Losses against Grimsby Town, Everton and Brentford have put major dents in Amorim’s progress.

On Monday evening, United face a Wolves side who have collected just two points all season.

Defeat against a winless Wolves would heap pressure onto Amorim’s job again, and raise serious concerns about United’s ability to beat lower-ranked teams.

On the other hand, victory could lift United up to fifth. But results this season prove that the Red Devils have failed to take advantage of favourable results to climb the table.

Amorim needs results, and Wolves is a must-win.
