Manchester United are gearing up to take on Wolves on Monday night knowing a victory could see them climb to sixth in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils have suffered just one defeat in their last eight matches, the dismal 1-0 loss to 10-man Everton, after a disappointing 1-1 draw with West Ham last week. After failing to beat the Hammers, they will nonetheless be optimistic about defeating Wolves at Molineux, as the relegation battlers have only managed to gather two points this season.

Away from the pitch, Ruben Amorim's United continue to be associated with potential deals as the January transfer window approaches. Here's all the latest headlines from Old Trafford.

Man Utd discover Adam Wharton strategy

Manchester United have discovered what they need to do to align with Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton's aspirations.

The Red Devils were repeatedly linked with the 21-year-old during the summer as they sought to bolster their midfield, reports the Mirror.

With three-and-a-half years left on his Palace contract, a January move for Wharton seems unlikely. However, the player's agent has outlined a career plan for his client, which involves joining a Champions League club and becoming a regular for England, having already earned three caps.

"Personally I think to play for England you have to play Champions League, to play in the Champions League you have got to play for one of the top teams in one of the top leagues," Wharton's agent James Featherstone told talkSPORT.

"That jump to a Champions League team, I think you can get lost. The plan below that was to play for a Premier League team. We have got a plan.

"He is 21. I have to check myself to remember that every now and then. It doesn't have to be achieved yesterday, today or this moment.

"He has got his in-game, in-season targets and goals. He has got to do his bit and the rest will look after itself in a very structured, calm way to ultimately add value and maximise his ability."

Diogo Dalot has issued a wake-up call to his United team-mates, urging them to stop viewing themselves as part of a long-term project.

The full-back, who netted against West Ham, believes the squad needs to ramp up their desire to win matches if they want to restore glory to Old Trafford.

He said: "I think we've shown this season that we can be a very good team and we can beat anybody. Then, it's something that we need to get into ourselves.

"Sometimes, it's not football qualities. It has to be from inside. It has to be from the anger and the drive that you have every day to win football games and to live your life like that.

"I think we need to become a bit more obsessed about playing for this club, winning games and winning trophies for this club. But it's a process. I'm not going to get into the 'we need time' thing.

"I think we have to win straight away because that's what the club demands. That's why it hurts sometimes even more when we have opportunities like this and we don't win."
