Napoli manager Antonio Conte has dropped huge praise on former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay after his side’s 2-1 win over Juventus.

Napoli resumed their Serie A title defence on Sunday and the Naples-based outfit welcomed Juventus to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium for their clash.

Scott McTominay started in the heart of the Napoli midfield and the 29-year-old former Manchester United midfielder saw out the full 90 minutes for the club.

The Napoli star’s former United teammate Rasmus Hojlund played a starring role for Antonio Conte’s men in Sunday’s 2-1 Serie A win over Italian side Juventus.

Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring for Napoli in the first half before the 22-year-old on-loan United striker later netted the winner in the second half of the contest.

Kenan Yildiz cancelled out Rasmus Hojlund’s first-half opener in the 59th minute, but Antonio Conte’s men were able to restore their advantage in the 78th minute.

Napoli’s 2-1 win at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium ensured that the defending Serie A champions remain in control of their title-challenging season.

Conte’s side are currently top of the Serie A table and Napoli are one point clear of second-place Inter Milan and three points clear of third-place AC Milan.

Scott McTominay was spotted heading over for treatment in the first half, but the Scotland international did not come off during Sunday’s match against Juventus.

Speaking after Napoli’s latest Serie A result, Conte admired former Manchester United star McTominay for persevering through his first-half issue in the match.

“Scott and the others are doing something extraordinary, just in taking responsibility and pushing on,” he told DAZN, as per Football Italia.

“I thought Eljif Elmas, in his first Serie A start in midfield, was remarkable, as he had played only in the Coppa Italia there and otherwise in a Number 10 role.”

McTominay has come into his own at Napoli since the former United youth academy product left Old Trafford and completed his stunning transfer to the Serie A outfit.

Signed for a £25.7m transfer fee in 2024, the Scotland midfielder impressed under Napoli manager Conte in his debut campaign with the reigning Italian champions.

McTominay’s second season at Napoli has been impacted after Napoli signed former Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer back in the summer.

The Scotland ace has been forced out to a wide position at times to accommodate Kevin De Bruyne, but McTominay remains a key part of Napoli’s plans.
