Things haven’t gone quite according to plan for Benjamin Sesko so far at Man Utd, but the club will be happy that his ‘no-brainer’ and ‘free’ alternative isn’t looking much better.
With two goals and one assist in 12 games across all competitions, Benjamin Sesko was already wanting for goals when things became worse.
Sesko’s injury, sustained against Spurs, has seen him miss the last few games, where Man Utd’s attack has looked anaemic.
It’s not quite what the club would have envisioned from their marquee striker, but the alternative isn’t faring much better elsewhere.

Man Utd were urged to move for Jonathan David
By the time United were moving to buy a striker, they had already spent close to £150 million without managing to make many sales.
It led to the team being linked to potential bargain solutions, and bargains don’t come much better than signing a player on a free transfer.

Enter Jonathan David, who had set French football alight while playing for Lille, and had confirmed that he would leave on a free transfer in the summer.

United were linked to David repeatedly, and on a free transfer with his versatility, a potential move made a lot of sense.
However, Ineos stuck to their guns and went all-in on their long-term target, signing Sesko, and paving the way for Juventus to sign the Canadian hitman.
Now that Sesko is not particularly doing well in terms of scoring, Man Utd fans must know that the free alternative isn’t faring much better either.
David is struggling at Juventus
The Italian league has been somewhat of a safe haven for former Man Utd players, as Scott McTominay headlines the rejuvenation projects, including Romelu Lukaku, Rasmus Hojlund, Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling, and Matteo Darmian, among others.
This is what Benjamin Sesko is really capable of!

That just puts into focus David’s struggles at Juventus, where he has scored just twice in all competitions despite playing more minutes than Sesko.
Sesko is young with limitless potential, while David should theoretically be entering his peak soon, turning 26 in January.
He has failed to crack the starting XI of Juventus and struggled to make an impact in the limited minutes he does get, leading to many fans in Italy getting frustrated.
All of a sudden, the “bargain” doesn’t look so intelligent anymore, especially because Juventus are on the hook for his big wages for the length of his contract, which comes with a free transfer.
United, on the other hand, have seen glimpses of potential from Sesko that they hope will eventually materialise into a world-class striker.
Even if he doesn’t, United will hardly regret not going for Jonathan David instead.
