Ruben Amorim's genius decision as Man Utd put horrible Wolves to the sword

Molineux was in full voice for the first time in a very long time.

It was 1-1, and Rob Edwards' side were heading into the half-time break with a fighting chance after Jean-Ricner Bellegarde turned the ball home on the stroke of the whistle.

However, 45 minutes later, Molineux's stunned silence was only replaced by a chorus of boos after the full-time whistle. United needed three points after a series of poor results, and there was no better chance to boost confidence than against this Wolves side.

Wolves looked void of confidence when Bruno Fernandes turned the ball home for a comical goal. And aside from the five minute spell when Bellegarde found the net, they were toothless throughout the clash.

Mason Mount was the man that making things happen as United hit another gear after the break. It hasn't been the best of spells at Old Trafford - but on Monday evening, Mount' United shirt finally looked like it was fitting correctly.

Amorim has kept patient with Mount, always singing his praises, even when battling injury. Over the summer he admitted: “Mount is perfect for that position because he can be a midfielder, can run like a winger, can play with his back to the goal.

"When you see that kind of guy, working hard every day, eating well, resting, ice bath, he does everything”.

Bryan Mbeumo restored the Red Devils' lead before Mount swept home with a lovely strike on the volley.

By the time Fernandes hit United's fourth, this time from the penalty spot, Molineux was looking a certain shade of gold - and those who did remain had started to turn their backs on the clash.

Wolves are firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table - yet to win their first game in the league this season, making them almost feel like a Championship side before the turn of the New Year.

United, meanwhile, might be ruing their dropped points as they have the top four back in their sights.

It's Bournemouth at home next for United, before a trip to Aston Villa before Christmas day.
