Kobbie Mainoo's Manchester United career hangs in the balance as the midfielder has fallen out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim. The youngster had a loan request turned down during the summer transfer window but could be set for a departure as January approaches.
Whilst Amorim's team have shown signs of improvement following a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign, one midfielder continues to struggle for game time. Despite previously appearing destined for stardom at Old Trafford and netting the FA Cup-winning goal just over 12 months ago, the 20-year-old Mainoo appears surplus to requirements under the current boss.
Speculation continues to surround a potential United exit, though there has been a reported update regarding one of the clubs said to be monitoring his situation. The Manchester Evening News has the latest developments from Old Trafford, including news of a fresh role for a midfield player.
Kobbie Mainoo transfer update
Mainoo appeared poised for a loan switch away from Manchester during the summer window, but the club prevented any move materialising. Fresh reports indicate he could depart in January following his continued omission from Amorim's squad selections.
It has previously been claimed that Italian outfit Napoli could emerge as a potential destination. Former United players such as Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund have departed Old Trafford to flourish in Naples and the club was said to have expressed interest in the young midfielder.

However, Tutto Mercato now claims that Napoli are "on the fence" about Mainoo and have identified an alternative target in West Ham's Soungoutou Magassa.
Roma and Italy star Lorenzo Pellegrini is also reportedly on the club's radar, should they decide to halt their pursuit of the promising Mainoo.
Midfielder handed new role
Club captain Bruno Fernandes continues to be a key player in Amorim's team this season, despite scoring only two goals so far. He has started every league match to date.
Since his transfer from Sporting CP in January 2020, the Portuguese international has been a reliable force in United's midfield. His dedication and contributions on the pitch have not gone unnoticed.

On the United club website, there is a section dedicated to profiles of players considered 'legends. ' This includes football greats such as Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, and many others.
Fernandes now finds his name on this prestigious list, alongside another current player, albeit on loan, Marcus Rashford. The 31-year-old's profile, complete with a biography of his time at the club and adorned with a fitting gold trim, is now featured.
