Ruben Amorim says there's something Mason Mount does not need to do, he's'massive for a manager'

Mason Mount scored his third goal of the season for Manchester United in a satisfying win over Wolves.

There were some nerves among the Manchester United fan base that we would end up being the first team this season to lose to winless Wolves.

United dominated in the first half, but still contrived to go in level after conceding a poor goal. Thankfully the second half was a lot better, with United’s cutting the Wolves’ defence apart.

The Red Devils ended up winning 4-1, and it could have been more if the team’s finishing was better. United attempted a total 27 shots at goal.

Mason Mount netted United’s third goal with a volley from a Bruno Fernandes cross. One of the big winners from United’s win, he was praised by Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim on Mason Mount

Ruben Amorim was delighted with Mason Mount’s performance in Manchester United’s victory.

While Mount now has two goals in his last three appearances, away at Palace and Wolves, Amorim says the midfielder’s game is about a lot more than that.

Mount had 45 touches compared to 85 from Bruno Fernandes, but Amorim says that because Mount is so clean with everything he does technically – on and off the ball – he is still able to have a major impact.

Amorim told BBC Sport: “It’s not just the goals that he scores, it’s the way he plays the game.

“He attacks, he defends, he understands, he’s technical, his quality is really, really good.”

“You don’t need to have many touches to be really good technically, and he’s a very good player, he works really hard.”

Amorim added that he appreciates Mount’s work rate, and his willingness to accept being in and out of the starting line-up.

“He knows that sometimes he needs to play on the bench, sometimes he’s a starter, but his pace, his work rate is always the same, and that is massive for a manager.”

Mount admitted Amorim was frustrated

Mason Mount also spoke to the media after the game and he says that Ruben Amorim was a frustrated head coach at half-time.

Mount admitted that Amorim had ‘a few things to say’ to the players, to warn them they were at risk of blowing the chance to land all three points.

United stepped it up, tightening up defensively and getting sharper in attack, and ended up as comfortable winners.

Manchester United now have a week before taking on Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Due to his fitness battles, a full week between games helps Mount out, and he should be raring to go next time out.
