Ruben Amorim has singled out Manchester United summer signing Matheus Cunha after the Red Devils’ Premier League encounter with Wolves at the Molineux.

The 26-year-old Brazilian forward was the first major summer signing that United made ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign under Ruben Amorim.
United triggered Cunha’s release clause in his Wolves contract back in June and the Red Devils paid £62.5m to the Premier League club to bring him to Old Trafford.
Cunha had a sensational run of form at the Molineux in the 2024-25 season and the Brazil international netted 17 times and registered six assists in 36 matches.

Matheus Cunha was in the starting XI for Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Wolves on Monday and played the full 90 minutes against his former side.

The former Wolves ace was deployed in the left-sided No 10 role in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system, with Bryan Mbeumo deployed on the right side of the flank.
Both Bryan Mbeumo and Cunha provided support for Mason Mount in the Red Devils’ attack, with United overcoming Wolves in the second half at the Molineux.

Speaking after United’s result against Wolves, Amorim suggested that Cunha has a key advantage over the likes of summer signing Mbeumo and Mason Mount.
“They have the quality to do that,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“They can change positions, especially if you have a guy like Matheus Cunha. He moves more than a typical number nine, so we took advantage of that.”

Cunha picked up an assist against his former side after the Brazil forward set up Bruno Fernandes for the Red Devils’ scrappy first-half opener against Wolves.
Amorim welcomed the three points that United secured on Monday evening and the 40-year-old Portuguese coach insisted that “momentum” is the key for his side now.

“We have always to build momentum,” he said.
“We need to reach a point in this club that we can have 20 wins in a row, the next one is so important and crucial to win.
“For us, every training, every game is important, so we need to focus on the next one and to win the next one.”
United are sixth in the Premier League table and the Red Devils have won seven of their 15 league matches under Amorim in the 2025-26 campaign so far.
