Stefan Borson predicts Marcus Rashford’s likely club next season amid Tottenham links

Tottenham are showing an interest to bring back Marcus Rashford to the Premier League in the summer of 2026.

Tottenham Hotspur have faced problems scoring goals under Thomas Frank. Their loanee forward Randal Kolo Muani has not been up to the mark and is yet to score a Premier League goal this season.

There has also been a serious lack of threat from the left flank. Clearly, Spurs are lacking a dynamic presence in that position since the iconic Son Heung-min left the club for MLS outfit Los Angeles FC in the summer. As such, Tottenham are preparing for a major attacking overhaul, and Marcus Rashford- on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United, has emerged as one of the prime targets.

The England international has enjoyed a renaissance in fortunes after joining Barcelona on a season-long loan from Manchester United in the summer. The forward has been among Barcelona’s best players this season, registering six goals and 10 assists in 20 games across all competitions thus far.

While the Catalan giants hold a €30 million purchase option, it is far from guaranteed that they will trigger it at the end of the season. As a result, the England international’s future remains unresolved thus far, with Tottenham aiming to bring Marcus Rashford back to the Premier League next summer.

However, Tottenham aren’t the only club interested in signing Rashford. Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for the Man United forward.

Now, former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson has claimed that Barcelona remain favourites to seal a permanent deal for Rashford in the summer of 2026.

“Well, I don’t think his value is going to go any higher than the option that Barcelona have got,” Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider.

“But clearly, if there’s a couple of teams that are interested, that’s better for United. You’d think somebody will take him for £30m.

“I mean, the only problem is if Barcelona didn’t or couldn’t, what would his attitude be to going somewhere else? You just don’t know.”

Borson feels Barcelona will find a way to sign the English star at the end of the campaign despite their financial difficulties:

“I guess part of the attraction of these performances right now is because he’s so engaged in the Barcelona situation and obviously desperate to move there, so you have to see what he’s like if he moves to somewhere else,” he added.

“But I think most likely he’ll end up at Barcelona. I think at that sort of price, they’ll find a way to do the deal probably.”

Difficult deal to do for Tottenham

Rashford is a household name in the world, and he would certainly elevate Tottenham’s attack with his pace, power, trickery and versatility. Plus, him being a proven top-flight commodity adds further to the forward’s value. However, it is Barcelona that have the option to sign him permanently for just €30 million from Man United.

€30 million for a player of Rashford’s calibre, experience and flexibility is an absolute snip, and Barca hold an advantage in signing him. Given their financial struggles, the Spanish club might struggle to trigger that option and pay his eye-watering wages of around £325,000 per week. If that happens, Spurs could have a chance to make a move for the player, although they’d still face firm competition from PSG.

For now, Tottenham have to be silent spectators and watch closely how the Rashford situation at Barca unfolds.
