Paul Scholes shares the advice he’d give Kobbie Mainoo if he was thinking about signing for Chelsea

Chelsea’s name refuses to leave the conversation when discussions over Kobbie Mainoo’s future away from Manchester United come up.

Mainoo has found it very difficult to find minutes despite an underwhelming 12 months for the whole club at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.

Chelsea have been linked with a January move for Mainoo, bringing the potential of partnering him in a side with best friend, Cole Palmer.

United legend Nicky Butt thinks Mainoo would be a success for Chelsea, and he and Paul Scholes were recently discussing what the youngster should do at this stage of his career.

Paul Scholes would support Kobbie Mainoo joining Chelsea

Speaking to ‘The Good, The Bad and The Football’, Butt stated:

“I hope he goes abroad, because it’s embarrassing if he comes to Chelsea, which they might go and get him, because they are putting together a very good young squad, and they keep buying young players, and they keep buying the right good young players, and you’re thinking, he could quite easily end up in Chelsea next season.”

Scholes replied: “And do you know what, you’d have to advise him to go. If he rang me to say, ‘look, I think Chelsea are in for me, what do you think?’ I’d say f—— all day long.”

Chelsea have been linked to a number of new midfielders in a future transfer window, including fellow Premier League stars Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson.

Why Chelsea shouldn’t sign Kobbie Mainoo

The England international is clearly a talented player, however the middle of midfield is one position Chelsea do not need to be prioritising.

The Blues have the starting duo of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, who are amongst the best in Europe as a partnership.

Andrey Santos is gradually earning minutes as a starter, as he looks to break into that starting partnership in the coming years.

There is also Romeo Lavia in the squad, however Chelsea will be well aware that his fitness record is going to have to improve if he is to become a reliable member of the squad.
