£24.5m Man Utd star ready to replace Mbeumo during AFCON, Amorim says he'works hard'

Manchester United cruised to a commanding 4–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium on Monday night.

A brilliant Bruno Fernandes brace, accompanied by goals from Mason Mount and Bryan Mbeumo, powered the Red Devils to a convincing win and lifted them to sixth in the Premier League table.

Although Fernandes stole the spotlight with his creativity and leadership, it was Mason Mount who walked away with the man of the match award.

The 26-year-old replaced Joshua Zirkzee in the XI and started in the left-sided number 10 role.

United head coach Ruben Amorim was full of praise for Mount after the game.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “It’s not just the goal he scored, it’s the way he plays the game – how he attacks, he defends, he understands his technical qualities.

“You don’t need to have many touches. He’s a really good player and works hard. He knows sometimes he needs to start on the bench.”

Mason Mount is rediscovering his sparkle

The former Chelsea man vindicated Amorim’s decision to include him in the starting XI.

Mount ran tirelessly without the ball to close down opponents and thread exquisite passes to slice through the hosts’ defence.

He completed 90% of his passes and fired three shots.

He also made five recoveries and launched two pinpoint long balls.

The £24.5 million-rated ace has not let Amorim or the United supporters down this term.

After two injury-disrupted campaigns, the coaching staff deserves immense credit for managing his fitness and helping him rediscover top form.

Mount took his goal with aplomb.

He spotted Fernandes with the ball in space and made a well-timed run behind the defence before smashing it past the goalkeeper.

He has three goals to his name in his last four starts.

The only time he failed to score was against Liverpool, but he still managed to impress with his tenacious display.

With Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo set to join their national teams for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Amorim may have found the ideal replacement for the right-sided number 10 role.
