Leeds United pre-Brentford and transfer news bulletin
A Leeds United star has been nominated for a Premier League award.
Leeds United star Anton Stach has been nominated for a Premier League award against the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Phil Foden.
Summer signing Stach was handed his 12th Premier League start in Saturday evening’s clash against defending champions Liverpool at Elland Road in which his brilliant goal proved key in a 3-3 comeback draw.
After a goalless first half, Daniel Farke’s Whites appeared to be staring down the barrel of defeat after a rapid brace from Hugo Ekitike within four minutes of the restart but a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty after a foul on Willy Gnonto brought the Whites back within a goal.
With 75 minutes on the clock, Stach then cut across the Reds box before firing home a superb equaliser as part of a fine display for his side.
Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai then went straight up the other end to put the Reds back in front but Leeds weren’t done with and Stach’s 96th-minute corner set up Ao Tanaka to convert a dramatic late equaliser.
Also hailing the German’s defensive contributions, the Premier League have now picked out Stach as one of eight nominees for the official Premier League Player of Matchweek 15 Award.
Stach faces competition from seven others including thriving City star Foden fresh from another goal and assist against Sunderland and Manchester United captain Fernandes who netted two goals and one assist at Monday night’s hosts Wolves.
The award is decided by voting from fans who have until 12 noon on Wednesday to cast their votes at the link HERE
Outlining Stach’s claims, the nomination for his award read: “Stach shone in a thrilling six-goal contest, showing both defensive discipline and attacking influence, capping his display with a vital second-half strike.
“The German midfielder fired home Leeds United’s second in the 75th minute, just two minutes after Dominic Calvert-Lewin's penalty, sparking a dramatic finale at Elland Road.
“It was also his corner that led to his side's late equaliser. Across the match he recorded 60 touches, 37 accurate passes and three key passes, while contributing defensively with six recoveries and four duels won.”
