United Striker’s Slow Start Raises Fresh Questions

Benjamin Sesko hasn’t hit top gear yet, and the option they passed on, Jonathan David, isn’t showing up much more either.

Early Struggles Of Sesko Highlight United’s Concerns

Man Utd expected a sharper start from Benjamin Sesko. Two goals and one assist in 12 outings isn’t what the club pictured when they chased him all summer. His injury against Spurs only made things worse, leaving the attack looking short of ideas and short of threat. The timing couldn’t have been worse, because he was just starting to find a bit of rhythm before being sidelined.

Given that, United are still waiting for their big signing to settle into the pace of English football. There have been flashes of what he can become. But, not enough to ease the pressure.

Form Of Jonathan David Shows the Grass Isn’t Greener

But, before anyone writes Sesko off, it’s worth looking at the striker Man Utd didn’t push for. Jonathan David kept coming up in transfer talks. He was linked with Man Utd last year. The idea of landing him without a fee made sense on paper. Strong work rate, good finishing, able to play across the front line. It felt like a safe bet. Juventus thought so too and snapped him up once United walked away.

The issue for David is simple, he hasn’t clicked either. Two goals across all competitions, despite playing more minutes than Sesko, paint a clear picture. He’s still trying to find his role in Italy, still trying to build chemistry with his teammates. United may be frustrated with Sesko’s slow start, but they can take comfort in knowing the alternative hasn’t been any sharper.

Author’s opinion:

United backed the striker they believed had the higher ceiling. Now, that choice still feels right. Sesko needs time, and the club should stay patient. The bigger test will be how he responds once he’s fully fit again.
