When Benjamin Sesko could make Man Utd return from injury, it’s good timing for Ruben Amorim

Benjamin Sesko is closing in on a return to action after being ruled out for a month with a knee injury.

Ruben Amorim was satisfied with his attack force after Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Wolves on Monday night. It was one of four games the Red Devils have had to play without Benjamin Sesko.

While Sesko is still trying to find his feet at Old Trafford and deal with the pressure of being United’s only recognised centre-forward, fans will hope he can embark on a goalscoring run when he returns to the team.

Amorim has called upon Joshua Zirkzee for the most part in Sesko’s absence. The Dutch forward scored once in that time, but he is not seen as an out-and-out striker, unlike Sesko.

It will be a boost to have another starting player back fit because United are short on attacking options even with a fully fit squad, especially in the striker department.

Benjamin Sesko set for return when he is needed most

Sesko has been sidelined with an injury since early November.

The 22-year-old joined United in the summer and hasn’t played since their 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

In Sesko’s absence, United have jumped to sixth in the Premier League table.

Sesko’s agent hinted that a return was close, but there has been a further update this evening.

Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett has provided an update on Sesko, outlining that the forward could return on Monday night to face Bournemouth.

Dorsett adds that Sesko is likely to play a minimal role if he does return against the Cherries, with an even greater chance of featuring in the upcoming game away to Aston Villa.

While Sesko’s return will see Zirkzee pushed back to a bit part role, the former Bayern Munich forward will be hopeful that he made enough of an impression to at least play a role as a substitute in more games.

This is what Benjamin Sesko is really capable of!

Amorim is not expected to give an update on his players until closer to the weekend, but these are positive signs ahead of a difficult period for United because the head coach will be without three key players due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

That means United will be without Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui for the foreseeable future.

Man Utd scored once against Bournemouth last season

United played Bournemouth twice last season, earning a mere point from both games.

In December 2024, Bournemouth won 3-0 at Old Trafford.

That means the only goal United scored against the Cherries last season came from Rasmus Hojlund, who is currently on loan at Napoli.

United also beat Bournemouth 4-1 in pre-season.
