Ruben Amorim has said that his approach to Mason Mount is the “same” as another Manchester United star — and the manager has the perfect blueprint for one more player now.

The 26-year-old former Chelsea ace has impressed under Ruben Amorim in the current campaign and, more importantly, Mount has avoided serious injuries.
Mount has been able to have a consistent run in the Manchester United first team, with the Red Devils midfielder netting three times and picking up an assist in 13 matches.
Amorim is a big admirer of Mount and the former England international is even catching the eye of United fans in the 2025-26 campaign due to his performances.

Joining the former Chelsea star in experiencing a run of matches under United manager Ruben Amorim is Luke Shaw, who has become a key defensive option.
Amorim has turned to Luke Shaw as his main pick for the left-sided option in his three-man backline after Lisandro Martinez was injured in the 2024-25 season.
Shaw has impressed for the Red Devils this season and the 30-year-old United defender has started all 15 of his side’s Premier League matches so far.

Speaking after United’s 4-1 thrashing of Wolves on Monday, Amorim admitted that he is managing Mount’s minutes in the same way that he did for Shaw last season.
“Sometimes, it is a tactical issue when you play a striker and sometimes [Matheus] Cunha is going to that position,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“But sometimes it’s also we need to protect Mason Mount.
“We need to build the same thing that we did with Luke [Shaw] last year, we are doing the same with Mase and taking care of him.”

Ruben Amorim’s blueprint for Mason Mount and Luke Shaw is being applied to Lisandro Martinez now
Lisandro Martinez made his long-awaited return to first-team football back in November after a brief cameo in United’s 2-1 comeback win over Crystal Palace.
The 27-year-old Argentine defender missed the second half of last season and the opening months of the current campaign after a long-term injury to his knee.

However, Martinez has overcome the damage to his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee after undergoing surgery and completing his extensive rehabilitation at United.
Amorim is trying to avoid another setback for the 2022 World Cup winner and Martinez has come off the bench in United’s last three Premier League matches.
The 40-year-old Red Devils boss has been building Martinez’s minutes, with the defender’s longest cameo coming in United’s win over Wolves at the Molineux.
Martinez has been a key defensive figure for the Red Devils, but the Mount and Luke Shaw approach that Amorim has previously used is essential for the player’s phased return.
