REPORT: Liverpool Are£65M Target’s“First Choice”As Huge January Move Gets Green Light

Liverpool are the “preferred destination” for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, according to reports.

The Reds have been vying with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham for the Ghanaian international’s services.

However, TEAMtalk claim that Semenyo is “eager” to make the switch to Anfield, having made the Merseyside club his “first choice” ahead of the January transfer window.

It’s likely that the situation surrounding Mo Salah has affected his thinking, with the Egyptian seemingly on his way out of the club.

The price has already been set for Semenyo

While Bournemouth would like to keep the 25-year-old until the end of the season, they are powerless to stop the player leaving due to a release clause in his contract.

It is believed that Semenyo can be signed for £65m (£60m upfront and £5m in add-ons) during the first two weeks of January.

If a team doesn’t pay the requisite fee, the winger would likely stay until the summer when the clause will be reactivated at a lower price.

Liverpool do have a potential alternative lined up

TEAMtalk claim that even if the Reds lose out on Semenyo, the club could pursue a move for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes instead.

The Brazilian has been on the club’s radar for several years, but his lack of game time since the arrival of Xabi Alonso in the summer could lead to him leaving the Bernabeu next month.

However, with Alonso’s future also up in the air, there is also a chance that Rodrygo will wait things out and see if another manager is appointed who is more likely to play him.

From the sound of things, a deal for Semenyo does look to be a much more realistic possibility at the moment.
