Player Amorim admires told Man Utd this summer he was leaving…emergency meeting had to be called

Manchester United teenage sensation Joseph Junior Andreou Gabriel, better known as JJ Gabriel, and his family informed the Old Trafford club at the start of the summer that they were planning to move on and thanked people at the club for all they had done, according to The Athletic.

However, Man United organised an emergency meeting in June, the day after Gabriel returned from holiday, and were able to change his mind.

The 15-year-old has trained with the Red Devils first-team a couple of times this term after manager Ruben Amorim was impressed after spending parts of pre-season watching footage of the attacker during internal flights on the US tour.

Manchester City were among the teams seriously interested in signing Gabriel in the summer, and some of the bigwigs in Europe are tracking him.

Barcelona continue to monitor him, but Man United will be desperate to hold on to him.

The Red Devils’ director of negotiations Matt Hargreaves and the director of football Jason Wilcox were able to convince Gabriel and his family that he has a future at the club, presenting the pathway to the first-team to him during that meeting in June.

He made his Old Trafford debut yesterday, scoring the only goal against Peterborough to send Man United under-18s into the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

It is unknown whether he will make his first-team debut this term, but he could be closer given how impressive he has been in training sessions with the senior players.

Man United host Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup third round next month and Amorim could look to name a strong squad as it is the only competition the Red Devils have a chance of winning this term.

Gabriel may need to wait until next season for his debut, and he will need to keep on improving and proving himself until then.
