So far, AS Roma haven’t made significant progress in a move for Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee. However, there are now signs they’re accelerating their attempts for the Dutchman.
Today’s Corriere dello Sport reports Giallorossi sporting director Ricky Massara is now going for it. He is pressing Manchester United and Zirkzee’s entourage in an attempt to bring the player to Rome.
The newspaper suggest there’s a lot of work to be done but Roma have a clear plan. They want to offer an initial loan worth €5m, with the obligation to buy if they qualify for the Champions League.
The Italian side are confident that the problem of agent commissions can be postponed until the summer. Roma are also making attempts to free up space in the squad by moving on Evan Ferguson and Leon Bailey.

Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport also states efforts are building.
They claim that Massara has now directly held talks with Manchester United. Contacts with Zirkzee’s entourage started many weeks ago.
The pink daily emphasises Manchester United want a permanent sale immediately. That is the club’s public stance but something different has been passed via intermediaries. Privately, they have expressed willingness to accept a loan with an obligation to buy for €35m.
Roma want to pay a little less, and have the purchase clause related to their Champions League qualification.
Reading between the lines of both reports, it would appear a €5m loan plus a €30m obligation on CL qualification could be the answer here.
