Manchester United are in talks over a potential glamour pre-season friendly against Wrexham this summer.

Daily Mail Sport understands that while nothing is set in stone at this stage, discussions have been held about Ruben Amorim’s side facing the Hollywood-backed team in Europe next summer.

Both clubs are in the process of navigating their pre-season schedules with the World Cup in North America complicating their plans.

A European friendly, expected to be in Scandinavia, would prove hugely popular given the popularity of both clubs.

One source suggested United are weighing up playing two friendly matches in Scandinavia this summer.

The two sides faced off in San Diego in July 2023 in what turned out to be a night of real controversy when then-Wrexham striker Paul Mullin suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs after a challenge from goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.

United are now in the process of firming up what their summer will look like and Wrexham is a strong possibility for July.

As previously reported in our Man United Confidential column, there won’t be time between the end of the campaign on May 24 and the start of the World Cup on June 11 for United to repeat their visit to Malaysia and Hong Kong after the final game of last season, which earned the club around £10million.

United must also decide if the five-week World Cup will whet the US public’s appetite for more football or saturate the market, potentially impacting ticket sales. The World Cup final will take place on July 19 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and United are set to go on tour shortly afterwards.

There also remains a key focus on agreeing a mid-season friendly in Saudi Arabia, likely in February, which would compensate and help offset the loss of the post-season trip.

Manchester United and Wrexham both declined to comment when approached.
