Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Burkinabe ‘prodigy’ Mohamed Zongo, ahead of Manchester City and Manchester United.
That’s according to Africa Foot. They report that a deal with Chelsea has now been finalised for the 16-year-old.
According to their information, Sporting Cascade of Tenakourou and Chelsea have reached a full agreement for the young midfielder to move to Stamford Bridge.
The BlueCo group have ‘won the race’ for one of the most sought-after talents after Zongo impressed at the U17 World Cup. Zongo will not immediately join Chelsea, though.
He will instead head to Strasbourg to continue his development. They’re seen as an ideal environment for his training and adaptation to European football. His move has been confirmed by an anonymous member of Sporting Cascade.
“It’s a purely sporting and strategic choice,” they said.
“We had extensive discussions with several clubs and received numerous calls… In consultation with the player’s family and all parties involved, Chelsea emerged as the best option for Zongo’s future.”
The move is seen as a ‘major opportunity’ for Zongo, who put in a ‘remarkable performance’ at the U17 World Cup and earned admirers around Europe.
Indeed, a report last month named Manchester City and Manchester United as suitors. Manchester City had spoken about him while Manchester United were also making initial moves.
They, though, have been beaten to the point by Chelsea, who have now wrapped up a deal for the youngster.
