Amorim watched on from the Molineux dugout as United produced a dominant performance over Wolves in the second half of Monday’s Premier League clash.

United beat Wolves 4-1 in their Premier League match, but the scoreline does not reflect the Red Devils’ underwhelming first half and complacency at the Molineux.

Bruno Fernandes netted the opener in the 25th minute with a scrappy finish before Jean-Ricner Bellegarde hit back with an equaliser for Wolves in first-half injury time.

Bryan Mbeumo restored United’s lead only six minutes into the second half before Mason Mount netted for the Red Devils to put his side 3-1 up in the 62nd minute.

Bruno Fernandes, who assisted Mason Mount in the match, was able to sign off his performance at the Molineux by completing his brace from the spot-kick.

Goal difference has been a problem for United this season and the scoreline helped Amorim’s men to ‘fix’ that issue as they climbed up the Premier League table.

But Wes Brown pointed out that iconic former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson drilled into his players how important scorelines could be on an overall season.

“In the last six games of the season, if you’re two points ahead and you end up drawing, you still know you’re top of the league [on goal difference],” he told Inside Carrington, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“Whether it was Arsenal or Chelsea and it was really tight, you had that mental feeling over your opponent.

“There were times when we’d win games two or three-nil and the manager would say we should have scored five. ‘Why were you messing about? Why did you slow it down?’

“That mentality can dampen other teams and it helps you so much.

“This is the best goal difference we’ve had for a while. Believe me, if you can score goals every game and a lot of goals, other teams look at you and start to panic.”

Ruben Amorim must replicate Sir Alex Ferguson’s message with his Man Utd players now

Goal difference could make or break United’s 2025-26 Premier League season, with the competition in the top half of the table heating up heading to the end of 2025.

United are sixth in the Premier League table and are level on points with fifth-place Chelsea, as well as being only one point off from fourth-place Crystal Palace.

Goal difference is separating United and Chelsea and the club’s tally is lower than third-place Aston Villa, second-place Manchester City and league leaders Arsenal.

Getting back into Europe, whether in the Champions League or Europa League, is already a major objective for Amorim in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

United are already feeling the effects of a Europe-less season, with the Red Devils being reduced to one Premier League fixture for most of the campaign so far.
