Manchester United will encounter more hurdles than usual when planning the 2026 pre-season tour due to the United States hosting the World Cup, while talks are underway for friendly matches in Europe.
Pre-season tours are a fantastic opportunity for fans from abroad to see Manchester United up close in their own countries.
In the past three years, United travelled to the United States for their pre-season tour.
United have also been in Asia in the past five years, but it is clear that there is a preference for tours in America.
The opportunities commercially are endless, but the board will need to go back to the drawing board when planning the next pre-season tour.
Perhaps the main reason for that is that the World Cup is taking place in the United States.
That could see United move their fixtures to another continent or remain in Europe.

Ineos are trying to make plans for next summer.
After an enjoyable tour of the United States earlier this year, it’s now time to make arrangements for the forthcoming pre-season period.

According to the Daily Mail, United have held talks with Hollywood-backed Championship outfit Wrexham over a pre-season friendly.
It is understood that both teams are in the process of navigating their pre-season schedules, with the World Cup complicating their plans.
That could open the door to a European friendly, with Scandinavia tipped as a potential destination.
The report also states that United are weighing up playing two friendly matches in Scandinavia.
A return to the US has not been completely ruled out, but United must decide if they think fans in that part of the world will want more football after the World Cup takes place for over five weeks.

When did Man Utd play Wrexham last?
The two teams last met in San Diego in July 2023, but it was a United side fielded by youth players.
It turned out to be a night of controversy as then-Wrexham striker Paul Millin suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs following a challenge from goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.
Wrexham won that match and Dan Gore was sent off.
