Manchester United have been linked with midfield reinforcements, but they could save a fortune if they hijacked a move Man City and Liverpool are considering.
Ruben Amorim can be content that Manchester United are heading in the right direction with his side sitting a deserved sixth and just one point off the Champions League places.
There have been good performances that didn’t yield the points they should have with only Man City having a higher expected goals and only Arsenal and City scoring more goals. A more resolute defence and top four is a distinct possibility if the African Cup of Nations loss of Bryan Mbeumo can be covered, it doesn’t help that his natural replacement Amad has been called up by the Ivory Coast.
Man United should hijack Ederson move
Manchester United have been linked with midfield reinforcements, but they could save a fortune if they hijacked a move Man City and Liverpool are considering.
The January transfer window will give Amorim another chance to strengthen after spending most of the summer trying to chase the “bomb squad” out of Old Trafford. One area where fresh legs will be needed and where the defence will benefit is in midfield with a natural no.6 or defensive midfielder a must.
What United need to do to land Adam Wharton
In an interview with talkSPORT, Wharton’s agent James Featherstone has suggested that his client could be read to take the next step in his career and United’s current position could make them a viable option: “When he was at Blackburn we sat down and spoke about shooting for the stars and playing for England.
“So how do you get there? Personally, I think to play for England you have to play Champions League, to play in the Champions League you have got to play for one of the top teams in one of the top leagues. That jump to a Champions League team, I think you can get lost. The plan below that was to play for a Premier League team.”
If Amorim gets his January transfer window right, there is no reason why United can’t be a Champions League team where a pairing of Ederson and Wharton could be the perfect blend.
