Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker believe Mason Greenwood should not return to England. Greenwood, 24, scored two goals in Marseille's 3-2 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League.
In November, it was claimed Greenwood had hopes of returning to the England squad, after he snubbed a call-up to the Jamaica international team. Three months previously, he was granted a Jamaican passport and citizenship, but his decision not to accept the call-up from the Reggae Boyz suggests he still has hope of representing the Three Lions.
England manager Thomas Tuchel has already said he has no intention of calling up Greenwood. Looking at his career, Shearer and Lineker believe it would be right for Greenwood to continue playing abroad and represent Jamaica.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Lineker said: "I want to talk about Mason Greenwood. He’s been doing brilliantly since. I know there’s a lot of controversy around him and he had that awfulness of his situation.
"He’s gone abroad and he’s performing, as he did last season, but this season at Marseille he’s performing really well. Another two goals yesterday, excellent finishes.
"I think he’s decided he is not going to try and play for England and that he is going to play for Jamaica, which is another option for him. Do you think that makes sense? It would be difficult for him here wouldn’t it?
Shearer said: "I think it was the right decision for him to go to another country. He had to settle down and just try and go out and play football.

"I don’t think anybody ever questioned his ability. He was a very good football player with a lot of talent. I think we all knew that."
Greenwood only earned one international cap for England which came in 2020 in a UEFA Nations League clash away to Iceland. During that international break, he and Phil Foden were reprimanded and told to leave the squad after both players allegedly met two women in a different part of the hotel the Three Lions were staying at, breaching Icelandic Coronavirus restrictions.
Both players were forced to apologise with then England manager Gareth Southgate describing them as "naive." Greenwood was called up to England's squad for the Euro 2020 championship, but an injury just before the tournament forced him to miss the competition.

In 20 appearances in all competitions, Greenwood has 13 goals and four assists for the French side this season. He recently gave his first interview since departing United, where he praised his manager Roberto De Zerbi, the former Brighton and Hove Albion boss who is now in charge of Marseille.
Greenwood told Telefoot: "I'm in a really good place thanks to the coach and my team-mates. I feel good and I hope to improve, to win more awards this season.
"Roberto De Zerbi? He's the brains of the team, the architect of our game. He helps me understand football much better, he helps me improve every day."
