The president of Lecce has spoken of his pride at the clubs sale of Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United. The Denmark international arrived at Old Trafford in the previous January transfer and his ability to play as a wing-back was considered crucial for Ruben Amorims 3-4-3 formation.

Since joining, there have been ups and downs for the 21-year-old. He was sent off on his first start at home, although his running power and energy have frequently given the team a solid outlet on the left win.

While Dorgu continues to find his feet in Manchester, his former club are content with how the transfer has played out, even though they did lose a key player.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Get Football News Italy), Saverio Sticchi Damiani highlighted the sales of Dorgu and former Barcelona and France defender Samuel Umtiti as examples of the clubs talent identification working.

"Umtiti was an extraordinary operation, a world champion who gave a lot to our club, but that of Dorgu represents the Lecce model 360 degrees," he said.

"Taken from the youth sector of a Danish team, he spent a year in the Primavera and half a season in Serie A, and then was sold to Manchester United for 38 million. It is a symbol of the quality of our club. And doing business with Manchester United is an additional source of pride."

Dorgu has yet to fully establish himself as a regular for the Red Devils. Hes made 14 appearances so far this season in the Premier League, with seven of those coming as starts and the other seven coming off the bench.

Diogo Dalot has been his main competition for a left wing-back spot and has started the last three games since the 1-0 loss to Everton at Old Trafford.
